The Antoni Tàpies Foundation hosted the IV edition of the Premi Proa de Novel-la on November 8, where the writer Martí Domínguez was awarded for his novel Mater. Thus, the Madrid novelist and essayist resident in Valencia, who has developed his work in Catalan, has won one of the most prestigious awards for literature in our country.

The Premi Proa de Novela in its IV edition

The objective of the Proa Prize for an unpublished novel in Catalan is to promote excellence, renewal and recognition of Catalan literature, endowing the winner with a prize of 40,000 euros.  In this new edition, the awarded piece, Mater, tells us a story with dystopian overtones where gestation takes place in artificial wombs and newborns come into the world genetically optimized.  A story, therefore, that shies away from labels, according to the author’s words, and that is influenced by classic diversions such as George Orwell’s 1984 or Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World.
